Culture

Throughout its history, Luxembourg has constantly reinvented itself.  As a cosmopolitan hub in the centre of Europe, a melting pot of nationalities, cultures and languages, the country is a place of international encounters and intercultural dialogue. The dynamism of its culture and creative industries has been reinforced by the organization of three European Capitals of Culture, which took place in Luxembourg City in 1995 and 2007 and in Esch-sur-Alzette in 2022, bringing a new attractiveness to Luxembourg and the neighbouring region.

The strategic orientation of the country's cultural policies is determined by the essential role that culture plays in the democratic debate. On the one hand, culture and art are valued as a means of emancipation and self-fulfilment, and on the other hand, the economic and social impact of the cultural sector, which favours the professionalization of cultural actors and contributes to the social cohesion of a multicultural society.

In this perspective, Luxembourg aims to strengthen its artistic and cultural outreach at the national and international level. The embassies and in particular the Maisons du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (MGDL) throughout the world, with the support of the Directorate of consular affairs and international cultural relations of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and numerous actors of Luxembourg’s cultural landscape, contribute to the promotion of Luxembourg’s culture in all its diversity throughout the world.
