Luxembourg Community in Shanghai Welcomes the New Year Together

On Friday, January 9, 2026, the Consulate General of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Shanghai hosted a New Year’s Reception for the Luxembourg community and friends of Luxembourg at the former Shanghai Race Club, a perfect location as China prepares to welcome the Year of the Horse Mid-February. 
 

It was also a great opportunity to look back to 2025, and Consul General, Tania Berchem, took the opportunity to share a historic moment with the community, the recent accession to the throne of H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume, Luxembourg’s new Head of State, illustrating a change of generations. Mrs. Berchem conceded that the year ahead will bring its share of challenges emphasizing that every challenge also leads to new opportunities and thus invited the community to embrace the new year with confidence, clarity and collaboration.
 

With Luxembourg Crémant and wine, guests enjoyed the company of the Luxembourg community in Shanghai and later shared the traditional galette des rois. A small gift was offered to those who discovered the hidden bean and were crowned king or queen of the night.
