Summer camp of CTTC welcomed Luxembourgish table tennis players in Shanghai

Five table tennis players from the Luxembourg national youth team attended a two-week summer camp at Shanghai University of Sport under the China Table Tennis College (CTTC), where they were coached by Chinese Olympic champion Yan Sen.

In addition to the training sessions, they greatly enjoyed watching matches at the 2026 Shanghai Table Tennis Carnival during the weekend, despite the typhoon alert. The Shanghai Table Tennis Carnival is the city's largest mass-participation table tennis event and has attracted a large number of amateur players, including many expatriates, over the past few weeks. The young athletes were excited to play alongside participants and interact with table tennis enthusiasts from different backgrounds. They appreciated the welcoming atmosphere of the festival and experienced firsthand the Chinese passion for table tennis, widely regarded as the country's "national sport."

At the conclusion of the training camp, the delegation was invited to the Consulate General in Shanghai, where they learned more about the activities and work of Luxembourg's consular mission in the city.

Table tennis has become one of the most important people-to-people links between Luxembourg and China since the establishment of the China Table Tennis College Europe (CTTCE) in the Grand Duchy. Each year, Chinese players travel to Luxembourg to participate in training programmes alongside European athletes. Luxembourgish players likewise have opportunities to train in China under world-class coaches, enabling them not only to improve their technical skills but also to gain a deeper understanding of the spirit, culture, and values associated with table tennis.
