Luxembourg Celebrates National Day in Shanghai
The Consulate General of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Shanghai celebrated Luxembourg National Day with a reception on June 24th. This year’s National Day celebrations marked the 25th anniversary of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke’s accession to the throne.
The reception also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the signature of the Schengen Agreement, underscoring the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s role in European unity and integration, as well as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the EU and China.
Ties between China and Luxembourg in the field of sports were also highlighted, with the presence of two young Luxembourg table tennis champions, Maël van Dessel and Tom Scholtes—recent gold medalists at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Andorra—currently training in Shanghai under Olympic champion Yan Sen, as part of the long-standing collaboration between the China Table Tennis College – Europe, located in Luxembourg, and the Shanghai Sports University.
The cultural ties between China and Luxembourg were foregrounded through the display of a portrait of H.R.H the Grand Duke, originally donated in 2015 by Xun Art Gallery to the Consulate General in Shanghai. Created by artist Jun WU, the piece was put on display during the reception in the presence of the artist.
The Consulate General of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Shanghai expresses its appreciation to all partners whose support contributed to the success of these events.
