Applying to vote by post in the European elections 2024

European elections on 9 June 2024

On 9 June 2024, all voters registered on the electoral roll in Luxembourg will elect six representatives from Luxembourg to the European Parliament.

Voting in the European elections is mandatory for all registered voters, regardless of their nationality (Luxembourg or of another EU Member State). Voters may not be represented by proxy.

postal voting system has been put in place for all voters in order to prevent abstention.

The request for a postal vote must be made to the commune in which the voter is registered:

  • at the earliest 12 weeks and at the latest 25 days before election day (i.e. 15 May 2024), if the poll card is sent to an address in Luxembourg;
  • at the earliest 12 weeks and at the latest 40 days before election day (i.e. 30 April 2024), if the poll card must be sent abroad.

If the request for postal voting is accepted, the commune will send the poll card by registered mail to the voter.

The poll card is sent, at the latest:

  • 15 days before the election, if the voter lives in Luxembourg;
  • 30 days before the election, if the voter resides abroad.

The envelope containing the ballot must be received by the appropriate polling station on the day of the election (June 9th 2024) before 14.00 at the latest.
