Luxembourg’s pavilion theme states "Small is beautiful too" (yi xiao yi mei). It illustrates the country’s population and geographical reality (500,000 inhabitants on a 2586 sq km surface) and is at the same time relating to the general theme of the World Expo "Better city better life" representing the wish of humankind for a better living in future urban environments.
The "Golden Lady" as a symbol for universal peace is gracing the pavilion entrance on a 3 m high pedestrial.
To embrace the powerful pavilion architecture and allow for easy visitor flow, French communication agency “Auditoire” developed an exhibition concept based on media and colour coding to introduce the diversity of Luxembourg country, economy and people.
The participation of Luxembourg at World Expo 2010 Shanghai is an initiative coordinated by the Luxembourg government in close cooperation with leading Luxembourg companies ArcelorMittal, Cargolux, SES and the Chamber of Commerce Luxembourg. The objective being to successfully put the picturesque Grand Duchy, small in size yet big in business, on the map of the Asian world.
While Luxembourg already participated in over 20 exhibitions of this kind since the mid 19th century, it is proud to present in Shanghai a self-built pavilion of 3000sqm, the second largest in the history of Luxembourg Expo pavilions since Brussels Expo in 1958.
