H.E. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, visits Luxembourg
China's top legislator Wu Bangguo paid an official visit to Luxembourg on May 22th and 23rd as the two countries marked the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
During this two-day visit, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), held separate meetings with H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, Laurent Mosar, president of the Chamber of Deputies and had exchanges with several members of governement, such as Etienne Schneider, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Claude Wiseler, Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Françoise Hetto-Gaasch, Minister of Tourism and Octavie Modert, Minister of Culture. Chairman Wu also visited some of the main sightseeing attractions in Luxembourg City and was hosted to a dinner at the beautiful castle of Bourglinster.
The issues addressed during these meetings covered recognition of diplomas for students studying in either country’s universities, promotion of cultural ties, increasing the flow of tourists in both directions, expansion of economic ties and notably the possibility of adding new air routes between China and Luxembourg, Chairman Wu recognizing that Luxembourg is ideally located to serve as a gateway to Europe for China. Speaking of fruitful bilateral cooperation on areas like finance, steel, airfreight as well as culture, education and tourism, Chairman Wu said, "On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, China is willing to work with Luxembourg to deepen political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and increase people-to-people friendship so as to advance bilateral ties,".
Chairman Wu was accompanied by a very large delegation comprising among others Zhang Zhijun, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zhong Shan, Vice-Minister of Commerce and Xiao Gang, Chairman of Bank of China Group.
