Luxembourg’s Finance Minister Luc Frieden visits China

Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Luc Frieden, travelled to Hong-Kong, Shenzhen and Beijing from January 13th to 16th 2013 accompanied by a large delegation of representatives of the Luxembourg financial sector.

Minister Frieden started his trip in Hong-Kong where he took part in the policy dialogue of the Asian Financial Forum and followed on with meetings with his Chinese counterpart, Finance Minister Xie Xuren, chairmans of supervisory authorities of the financial sector, Mr. Shang Fulin of CBRC and Mr. Guo ShuQing of CSRC and finally Mr. Zhou Xiaochuan, the governor of the People's Bank of China.

Luxembourg's Minister of Finance also took the opportunity of this trip to talk with representatives of Chinese banks: Bank of China which has its European headquarters in Luxembourg, China Construction Bank as it recently announced its plans to set up its European headquarters in Luxembourg and two other Chinese banks with European expansion plans.

Discussions mainly focused on developing bilateral relations, promoting the use of Luxembourg as an entry gate to the European market for Chinese banks and asset managers and positioning the Grand Duchy as an offshore RMB centre.
