17th May- International Day against Homophobia

Published Sunday May 17 2020

On 17th May 2020, we mark the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) – a day on which we raise awareness of the rights of the LGBTIQ community, which is still facing discrimination in some places.

The Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg is a strong advocate of guaranteeing equal rights to all people, independently of their sexual or religious orientation, ethnicity or social background. Thanks to the courage and commitment of many people throughout past generations, Luxembourg’s LGBTIQ community is now witnessing unseen levels of acceptance. However, the fight for acceptance and equality remains an ongoing process at all levels: from the youngsters coming out to their parents to the Prime Minister speaking up on the international stage.

As an outward-facing and multilingual country home to people from all four corners of the world, Luxembourg experiences and enjoys the benefits of a diverse population on a daily basis. The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia should therefore also be an occasion to celebrate our diversity.

The EmoXie  ‘Love is Love’ , developed especially for the IDAHOT, shall remind us all that love exists independently of sex or gender. Love: a force of nature one can neither demand nor command. A force that can be both the most uplifting and the most disheartening experience.
